Village of Güime
Güime is a village in the municipality of San Bartolomé, located about two miles south of San Bartolomé.In the current
oral tradition or hear Güime with Goíme variant, it is not possible to say which of the two forms is the primitive or the most authentic. Worse is the written representation that appears with this name in the main bibliographic sources, which does not reflect its true pronunciation, and both historical sources and in many of the current.
Currently listed as Guime, as they had written Torriani, Viera, Berthelot, Chil y Naranjo and others.
As Gorime appears on maps Briçuela and PA Castle, both in the late seventeenth century. Finally, in the Dictionary of Madoz (1986: 122), half of the nineteenth century is written as Guimes and is said to be a "village San Bartolome added to ... It has 20 neighbors, 116 souls, all laborers and as applied to an infertile, rocky soil make it produce, with the help of the rains, crops on land much larger than crumb and good quality. "
The proximity of this toponym to Lanzarote Tenegüime thereof, as in the latter case Wölfel said. It is possible that in the case of Guimaras it is a different lexical root, but is almost certainly Agüimes Tenegüime Güime and have the same lexical root undoubtedly Guanche origin.
Population is right Guime of 1330 inhabitants (1 January 2010)
