The Onion
It is native to Central Asia, such as garlic and shallot. In the Middle Ages it was used in both culinary and pharmacy.
The onion belongs to the Liliaceae family (garlic, leeks ...). Onion is the underground bulb-shaped yellow red violet of a small plant, which has its green branches and green round, which are hollow inside. The white onion is harvested in late spring and color are collected in late summer. It is cultivated in all the European countries of the Mediterranean and in the Arab countries.
It is a plant of temperate and humid, noncalcareous needs land, loose, healthy, deep and rich in organic matter.
The onion Lanzarote for its delicious sweet taste, not as strong as those that occur in other parts of the world are exported in large quantities to the peninsula, but also ended up in tables of England, Holland, Germany etc. The island exported onions in amounts well above those consumed, and later with the addition of other exporters of onions, their market price fell gradually causing the abandonment of this product, while still planted today but at a much smaller scale than in recent years.
