Municipality of Tinajo
Located in the center west of the island, more than half of its 136 km square are covered by the lava of volcanic
eruptions of the eighteenth century. The municipality has a wide front the sea, between Punta Prieta and El Roncador. The northwest section is currently urbanized for tourism. It is called La Costa de la Santa.
Interestingly, the natural phenomenon of the island, a coral barely elevated and surrounded by an arm of the sea, like a marsh. In the vicinity of the coast of La Santa is the famous cave Ana Viciosa, linked to ancient legends of pirates.

Has the distinction of retaining its southern part, which is a great arched cliff. The top or back of the Cuchillo, opened by the shifting sands of El Jable. One of the interesting places for its local color is the Vegueta, agricultural area which was always given great importance of soil characteristics. Their religious center is in Yuco, with the chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Regla. But undoubtedly, the most revered virgin of Tinajo is the Los Dolores, known here by the virgin of volcanoes, symbolizing the redemption of the suffering of the island. During the eruptions of the volcano Tinguatón of the eighteenth and XVX, legend has it that the patron saint of the island was taken to the sea of ​​lava that was destroying everything in its path and both times the lava stopped at his presence. The Chapel of Mancha Blanca and a cross symbolizing the divine intervention to alleviate the thirst destructive volcano. To celebrate these miracles, every September 15 is celebrated in this chapel the feast of the Virgin of the Volcanoes. Some houses Tinajo, present onion-shaped chimneys of great originality. These structures are also observed in other parts of the Lanzarote and are a clear example of the architecture of the island. Iglesia de Los DoloresTinajo is one of the municipalities that have a more important land in the island for its good soil and its orientation to the trade winds. At its end is all the peculiarities of agricultural land of Lanzarote: topsails, jable, sanded natural and artificial, and so on. So, thanks to the perseverance and industry of its farmers, has a significant agricultural activity. The westernmost part of the municipality of Tinajo is partially included in the Timanfaya National Park, and has the magnificent and spectacular volcanic cone of Montaña Blanca. It belongs to the City of Tinajo among other villages: El Cuchillo, Mancha Blanca, Tiaguatón, La Santa, El Calvario, La Cañada, La Costa, La Laguneta, Tajaste, Tenésar y La Vegueta.
