Isle of Alegranza
Currently the island belongs to the family Jordan, but is deserted, with only some remnants in the south of the ancient
buildings dating from the first half of the twentieth century, when it was held a small farm and livestock. In the west there is a lighthouse that operates automatically, and in whose presence tends to enable a scientific staff camp that houses occasionally in the islet.
It can only be visited with permission from the Ministry of Environment of the Canary Islands. If we are to move through it must also have current authorization from the landowner.
Alegranza Island is the northernmost of all the Canary archipelago and first glimpsed vessels that came from Spain . Its distance from La Graciosa is 10 km. ; 11'72 km ² and has a maximum height of 295 m . La Caldera.

They Torriani and Abreu Galindo (this more extensive ) Alegranza the name they gave the French expedition bethencouriana when, on his way avistarla conquest, began to shout " happy to give the Spaniards , who came dizzy "saying in French "alegranze , alegranze , 'and that repeat many times this name with him stayed. It may be ; there is nothing that we know of , who opposes consistent with the laws of this appointing toponomastic anecdote ; indeed, several of the Canary Islands are named with the first aspect that offered to the baptized : and Graciosa Iron Mountain Clara or Fuerteventura. But there is another possible explanation , provided by Augustine Pallares and commented : It is known that the brothers Vivaldi , Genoese birth , visited the islands in the late thirteenth century , and were in Lanzarote ; left no written record of their journey, they were lost without knowing his whereabouts , but it is known that one of the two galleys they left Genoa in 1291 was called Allegranza . Is not this the origin of the name of the island ? Would , in this case , a parallel to the name assigned to the island of Santa Clara origin.
