D. Alfonso Spínola Vega
Born in Teguise on December 22, 1845, his parents were Melquiades Spinola Nola and
María Vega. He studied medicine at Seville, and later continued in Cadiz, in 1869 obtained his medical degree.
Back to Lanzarote and married Rosalia Spinola Aldana, acting as a practitioner in his native Teguise. The common people liked him very much for your great humanity and charity.
In 1878 he traveled to Uruguay, settling in Montevideo, and later moved to the town of Piedras inside the country. Four years living in this town which is known for his immense work to eradicate smallpox epidemic that was sweeping the locality. Years later he moved to San Jose, where he combines research medicine, came to correspond with Pasteur himself, and even teaches classes of Natural History. On July 20, 1905 died in Uruguay, Offering this country a national tribute and holding it between his favorites sons.
